PV 9.1: Equity and Disadvantage

The autumn 2012 edition of Professional Voice takes a broad look at equity issues. Alan Reid argues that governments have fallen in love with quick fixes and easy answers — especially when they come from non-educators. He could have any number of UK initiatives in mind — Alan Smithers notes that choice and standards policies in England failed to increase equity because they were not part of a well-designed system. Tony Vinson says that investment in early years is not only the best investment we can make in society, it is a moral imperative, while Ann Taket et al look at how preschool teachers support resilience in disadvantaged four-year-olds. And John Graham analyses Coalition policy in Victoria and wonders who exactly it is designed to benefit.
