The AEU runs a busy program of events across Victoria for graduate and student teachers, including three conferences, regular PD in the Pub sessions, workshops on applying for jobs, our Meet the Principals events and dedicated PD for preschool teachers.

New Educators Tri-State Conference

August 21-22 - Mildura

In partnership with our counterparts in New South Wales and South Australia, the AEU Victorian branch is hosting a tri-state conference for new educators at the Mildura Grand Hotel.
 
The program includes sessions on student wellbeing, the curriculum and student engagement techniques. There will be valuable opportunities to network with other early-career teacher from the region. Please download and circulate this flyer (PDF 403KB) to any early-career members in your school who would be interested in developing their professional practice. To ensure the ongoing success of regional events like this, it is important that they are well attended.
 
This event is open only to AEU members in their first 5 years of teaching. The AEU will cover the cost of the conference, CRT costs and accommodation if required. Interested applicants should send an expression of interest stating why they wish to attend and how they think it would assist their development as a teacher. National New Educators Conference

October 18-19 - Brisbane

You are invited to apply for the AEU National New Educators Conference in Brisbane.  Download the conference flyer here (PDF, 411KB). The conference is tailored for early-career teachers in Victoria who want to become more engaged in their education union. Join New Educators from Australia and the Pacific to engage in topics including:

  • What are some of the current and predicted changes to our education system?
  • What could unions do to better support their members?
  • How can you be more active at the AEU?
  • The views of AITSL and the AEU regarding changes in teacher workload and professionalism.

Travel and conference costs will be met by the AEU.  To apply, send a brief expression of interest stating why you you'd like to attend and how you feel it will benefit you and why you’d like to be more engaged in your union. Please send applications or questions to Adam Surmacz.

New Educator Activist Program

This week-long program runs each term. The program will be held at the AEU Abbotsford office.

Term 3 (Apply by August 17) - Wed-Fri September 3-5
Term 4 (Apply by November 16) - Wed-Fri December 3-5

Student teacher conference

The AEU holds two conferences each year for final-year student teachers. Participants learn about critical issues, hear from education experts and participate in relevant workshops. It’s also an excellent networking opportunity. Both conferences will be held at the AEU Abbotsford office.

Graduate teacher conferences

We run two Graduate Teacher Conferences each year — one for primary and one for secondary members. They are fantastic professional development opportunities that allow participants to learn about crucial issues, hear from educational experts and participate in targeted and timely workshops. Both conferences will run from 8.30am to 4.00pm at the AEU Abbotsford office. Click on a conference to find out more and book online.

Meet the Principals

These events are held across the state and provide an opportunity for final-year student members to meet current primary and secondary school principals. Find out what principals are looking for in small discussion groups in a relaxed atmosphere and gain an insight into the application and interview process. All events run from 4.30pm–6.00pm.These are members' only meetings for student teachers, but students can join on the night — and remember student membership is free. New Educators Network meetings

NEN is the AEU’s association for members in the first four years of their careers. It’s an opportunity to network and become involved in AEU campaigns. Meetings are held twice a term and all New educators are welcome to attend. PD in the Pub
