State election campaign
Education for Everyone's Needs:
New Decade, New Commitment, New Investment
Last state election the AEU's "Education for Everyone's Needs" campaign challenged parties to fulfill their claims to make education their number one priority, and to rebuild our dilapidated school infrastructure as a matter of urgency.
The Brumby Government's committment of $1.9 billion for 500 schools as down-payment on a 10-year rebuilding program was proof of our campaign's success.
This new updated document (below) represents
the AEU's vision for the next 10 years, across
preschools, primary, secondary, TAFE and
disability services. It is a campaigning document
to hold political parties to account and seek firm
commitments in the lead up to the election.
"Public education is the cornerstone of our common future," says AEU Victoria branch president Mary Bluett. "It is imperative that it should be of the highest quality, accessible and effective for all regardless of income, ethnicity, religion or gender. It is not just the wealthy few who should have access to ongoing opportunities that quality education provides, but every student or learner.
"Investment in public education is an investment in our collective future - that is why it must be the first priority of any government."
