Your pay and conditions

Education Support staff (school services officers as were) who are employed by the Education Department are covered by the Victorian Government Schools SSO Agreement 2004 (varied and extended 2008).

In addition, ES staff are covered by one of two awards; however, under the Fair Work Act (section 57), the terms of these awards do not apply as long as an agreement is in operation.

School Council employees are covered by the Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award 2010 , a new modern award. Department employees continue to be covered by the School Services Officers (State Government Schools) Victoria Award 2000. This old federal award continues to apply under Victoria's referral of its industrial powers to Canberra. However, this award too is due for modernisation by 31 December 2013.

The SSO Agreement 2004/2008 has now nominally expired, but remains in effect until a successor agreement is reached. ES employees received an automatic payrise of 2.75% from April 1, 2012, under a clause which provided for this in the event no new deal was reached by that date.
