June 7 stopwork resolution
13 June 2012
The following resolution was overwhelmingly approved by AEU members at the June 7 stopwork meetings at Melbourne, Mildura and Wodonga:
That this mass meeting of AEU principal and teacher members condemns the Baillieu Government for its failure, during eight months of negotiations, to put an acceptable offer in negotiations on the key issues of pay, career structure, workload and contract employment.
This meeting condemns the unacceptable productivity trade-offs proposed by the government to finance its performance pay proposals. This meeting declares that the AEU will never accept performance pay for principals and teachers because of its divisive nature in a collegiate profession and because there is no evidence from any education jurisdiction in the world that this system produces better student outcomes.
Further, this meeting authorises the AEU Branch Executive to put in place:
a) A range of bans and limitations to be implemented strategically throughout the campaign to escalate the dispute;
and
b) A further program of stopworks of between one and 24 hours at a statewide, regional and sub-branch level.
In addition, the AEU is to continue a media campaign of paid and unpaid publicity to support the industrial campaign, together with a political campaign targeting ministers' electorates and the electorates of marginal Coalition MPs.
