My School Needs
Invest Don't Cut
The AEU is calling on sub-branches to stage a protest against Baillieu's cuts agenda and his backflip on teachers' pay whenever state Coalition politicians visit your school.
The Baillieu Government has failed to deliver on its promise to make Victorian teachers the highest paid in the nation. It is planning half a billion in cuts -- axing programs that our schools need.
School visits are always easy photo-opportunities for media-hungry politicians. It's time they discovered these events can work both ways.
My School Needs
We need to stand together as a school community. When we speak up together our voices have a better chance of being heard.
As parents and carers, teachers, support staff and principals, we can pressure the government and opposition for policies to improve the resources and facilities at our schools.
You may think that by yourself you don’t have a lot of power to influence politicians’ decisions.
But it’s not true.
There are over one million voters with children at a Victorian Government school. Then there are the grandparents and other interested community members as well.
Together, we cannot be ignored. That’s why we’re bringing together school communities.
Make your voice heard to improve our schools. It’s as simple as signing this pledge.
The My School Needs campaign is calling for five things to improve education:
- Reduce class sizes in upper primary and secondary schools
- Provide schools with the appropriate resources to deliver a broad range of subjects
- Support students with behavioural and emotional problems by expanding the provision of special settings
- Provide more teacher assistants, including home-school liaison officers
- Provide more teacher aides to help students with learning difficulties or disabilities
Let’s work together to make it happen.
