AMES performance review process (PPRD)

21 September 2009

The AEU has been made aware that the PPRD process continues to cause angst amongst some members. We have been advised teacher meetings were held at some worksites this week where the process was discussed and concerns were raised.

Previously the AEU has held discussions with AMES management about the level of concern this new process is causing amongst the teaching workforce. As a result of those discussions, AMES management sought to allay concerns and Robin Allen wrote to all teachers to explain the intention of the PPRD.

We understand that during the past few weeks various versions of the PPRD documents have been circulated via the AMES intranet and that these have since been superseded. We believe the final PPRD forms and accompanying information sheet have now been placed on the intranet for teachers.

The union has continually insisted that this process did not mean there was a "quota" or restriction on how many teachers could increment to the next level. AMES management have gone on record numerous times both in meetings with teachers and in writing to confirm that there is no quota on the number of teachers who will increment to the next level.

This is a new process which needs to be learnt and understood by teachers and managers alike. There is also a tight timeline before the incremental date on October 22.

Members need to be assured that this process should not be onerous and that experienced and qualified teachers should have little difficulty demonstrating the required standards by addressing the standard and 26 elements. The intention is you use your normal everyday duties and work to demonstrate your competence. You are not meant to write an essay about what you do, nor are you meant to produce extra work to prove your worth to the organisation.

Members can be assured that the union will be monitoring the process. If any member has problems at the conclusion of the first stage of the process, they should contact Bob Parr at the union's office on 9417 2822.
