ES Recognition Month
Education Support has become the fastest-growing sector in the AEU, with over 7,700 members. This impressive growth in membership has resulted in many ES staff feeling more comfortable expressing their views and opinions.
ES members now recognise their industrial strength, campaigning alongside teachers and principals in the recent Schools Agreement dispute. There is no doubt that our ever-increasing membership has resulted in the significant wins and oportunities we have achieved in our new single Schools Agreement.
It is important that ES members continue to make their voices heard and that our sub-branches encourage their involvement and ensure their rights and issues are given due recognition.
The AEU understands that all staff in our schools work together as a team, but ES Month is a special opportunity to acknowledge the important contribution of our ES staff. All reps were were sent a letter outlining ES Month including a poster. Ask your rep what they have planned today.
We would like to invite our ES members to join us at one of the many events planned in August.
Invitation to More than Coffee and Cake
This year we want to celebrate the new found strength of our ES members by inviting them to more than just "Coffee and Cake". Come and explore the single agreement and all the opportunities it brings, while networking with fellow ES and your coffee and cake! Click here to link to the Coffee and Cake page.
AEU School Visits in August
During the month of August we encourage you to invite an AEU organiser or elected official out for an update on the new single agreement and how it impacts on ES members. We will have AEU giveaways for any visit booked during August. Contact the AEU now to arrange a visit so your ES staff don’t miss out!
- Call 1800 013 379 or email to invite an AEU organiser to your school.
Organise a special event for your ES members
During ES Month we ask sub-branches to highlight the role that the AEU plays in campaigning for better conditions for our ES members. Schools are encouraged to organise an activity to acknowledge their ES members and the contribution they make to schools. Some suggestions include a morning tea, lunch, cards or letters from students and teachers, or drinks and nibbles after work. All reps were were sent a letter outlining ES Month including a poster.

Active: ES Agreement in depth
Wednesday, August 14: The AEU Active training program is designed to develop active, well-informed sub-branches. A day specifically for ES members is held during ES month. This one-day course for ES members focuses on the ES Agreement as well as local agreements. Topics include consultation and knowing your entitlements such as attendance, leave, ongoing employment, and much more. You will develop a greater understanding of your Agreement and how it relates to your school and circumstances. We will discuss ways in which ES can become more connected with their AEU sub-branch. Click here to link to the Active: ES Agreement in depth page for further information.
Friday, August 30: The Melbourne ES Conference is a popular fixture in the AEU calendar. It features keynote speakers, a range of workshops covering professional and personal development, and a chance to network and share ideas and solutions with colleagues. The conference is complemented by twilight events held in outer metropolitan and regional areas during the year. Click here to register for the Metro Conference and here to view the poster.
