Keynote speakers

Nina Funnell: We need to talk about the Teen Sexting Panic

Why are young people "sexting"? What impact have social media and mobile technology had on their relationships and social lives? How can educators equip them with practical skills to make safe, ethical choices around technology?

Nina Funnell will examine how young people use technology and the drivers behind behaviour like sexting and cyber bullying, and offer a new framework for thinking about these issues. Applying lessons from the successes and failures of other personal development and education programs, Nina suggests that we need to find new ways of talking about cyber issues instead of demonising technology and pathologising young people.

Nina is a social commentator and opinion writer published regularly in The Age. She trains elite athletes on their attitudes towards women and consent. In 2009 she toured Australia and spoke with 15,000 school students. She serves on the NSW Premier's Council in Preventing Violence Against Women.

Meredith Fuller: Working with Mean Girls

Meredith Fuller's new book,  Working with Mean Girls: Identifying and protecting yourself from workplace nastiness, is an analysis of what is going on for women when they have to work with "mean girls". What motivates the behaviour? How can you develop strategies to survive and thrive?

Plus comedy from Judith Lucy and a welcome and update on our campaigns and negotiations from AEU Victorian president Mary Bluett.
