SSO (Education Support) Bulletin - a new agreement at last!

The new agreement was overwhelmingly supported by AEU SSO members and all SSO staff, and was approved by the Australian Industrial Relations Commission on 9 December 2008. Now we begin the implementation process.

The Agreement gives SSOs a new classification structure and a new name; Education Support (ES). The classification structure has been improved and provides increment benefits and opens up opportunities for review of current roles against the new dimensions of work.

The Agreement has the potential to improve the working conditions for ES staff and importantly the quality of support provided to students and our schools.

Implementation of the new agreement

ES members and AEU reps are encouraged to attend their regional meetings to ensure that they are informed. Dates and locations of regional meetings are on the website www.aeuvic.asn.au/about/

Your AEU Rep at school will also be faxed information about the regional meetings, so let your Rep know that you are interested in attending. It would great if members could organise a small contingent from each school to attend.

Training and further support

A full program of AEU training courses and forums throughout this year will focus on the new agreement. They include one and two-day AEU Active courses and forums.

Organisers are also available to visit and work with their schools to implement the Agreement. If you would like to arrange an ES implementation meeting at your school please contact Julie Lynch.
