NTEU industrial action at RMIT: AEU sends its support

15 September 2009

The AEU has been advised by the NTEU that their members in the higher education sector at RMIT will be taking industrial action Wednesday. The reason for the action is that RMIT management have failed to bargain seriously since May last year and have not responded to the NTEU’s key claims.

Therefore NTEU members in the higher education sector will be stopping work for 24 hours and also establishing picket lines.

TAFE members will know just how difficult the process is to get a decent salary increase whilst maintaining working terms and conditions. You will also recall the strict federal laws AEU members had to adhere to during our industrial campaign. So whilst AEU members cannot take an active role in the NTEU dispute due to those same federal laws, please give your verbal support to NTEU colleagues, especially those on the picket lines.

The AEU has sent a written message of support to convey to NTEU members.

Branch President
