State of Our Schools 2011: Facilities and maintenance
The AEU's annual State of Our Schools survey is a regular snapshot of public education in Victoria. More than 500 principals responded to the 2011 survey, making it one of the most comprehensive barometers of the government school system.
Among the findings, four out of five principals said their schools had not benefited from the Victorian Government's 10 year building program, with either no plans for work, or plans where work had not yet begun. Some 77% said their school had urgent maintenance needs.

Three-quarters rated education as one of the most important issues in the forthcoming state election — the highest for any issue, equal with health — and overwhelming numbers supported the need for greater investment to support students with additional needs.
