On 1 May, Branch Council resolved to move the AEU Victorian Branch Annual Conference from its original planned date of 1 August in light of the unfolding COVID-19 pandemic in the hope that a face-to-face meeting could be held at a later date in October. At the most recent meeting of Branch Council on 11 September, the following resolution was passed to move the date of the Annual Conference from 24 October to 14 November.
“THAT the Branch Council move the 2020 Annual Branch Conference Meeting from 24 October 2020 to 14 November 2020 and respective Sector Councils and Branch Council meetings from 23 October 2020 to 13 November 2020 in response to the recent confirmation of the AFL Grand Final public holiday on 23 October and AFL Grand Final on 24 October 2020.”
The AEU Victorian Branch Rules stipulate that a meeting of the Annual Conference be held at a date not later than 30 November. The 2020 Annual Conference meeting will be held online and the agenda and papers that were endorsed at the 11 September Branch Council will be sent out to each region, cluster, sub-branch and delegate at least four weeks prior to the meeting.
Given much has changed since the agenda and conference statement were compiled, there is capacity for the chairperson to determine that if a matter is urgent and has arisen since the preparation of the agenda paper or if the majority of members of the branch conference consent, the matter may be dealt with at the Annual Meeting of the Branch Conference.
