The transition from Assistant Principal to Principal is challenging and can be daunting. While experience as an Assistant Principal is invaluable, the Principal role is unique and the Unlocking Potential (UP) course prepares Assistant Principals for the move to Principal in the next two years. If you are considering becoming a Principal and applying for the UP course, this webinar is for you!

In this webinar you will learn about:

  • the purpose of the UP course
  • the structure of the UP course
  • the application process - response to Key Selection Criteria, digital story, curriculum vitae, Principal endorsement
  • qhat the UP course requires of participants - workshops, internship, peer learning groups, self-directed learners, learning improvement and leading quality conversations
  • link to VAPA.

This webinar will provide you with the foundation required to apply for the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership Unlocking Potential Course to continue your leadership journey.

Facilitator: David Adamson recently retired after 46 years as a teacher and Principal Class Officer in Victorian Government Schools. For the last 16 years he was the Principal of a multi-campus secondary school in the North-West of Melbourne. David has extensive experience in leadership development. He has been a participant in the UP program as both a Principal Mentor and home school Principal and was a Facilitator for the Inspire Program. In 2024 David was made a life member of the AEU in recognition of his contribution and leadership within the AEU.

NOTE: While not a pre-requisite for completing the Victorian Aspiring Principal Assessment (VAPA), UP is highly recommended as preparation for VAPA.

Target audience: This course is designed to assist Assistant Principals in their application for the UP program and explore the links to VAPA.
