Full funding secured for Victorian schools

The Australian Education Union Victorian Branch has welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement that the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments have agreed to lift Victorian public school funding to 100% of the Schooling Resource Standard.

The Victorian Government will deliver their full 75% share of funding for school program delivery and no longer allocate 4% to school capital depreciation and similar measures. The Commonwealth Government will increase their contribution from 20% to 25%.

The following comments are attributable to Australian Education Union Victorian Branch president, Justin Mullaly:

“Full funding, with an increased contribution from the Commonwealth, means Victorian public school students will have more support to achieve to their full potential.

“With full funding, schools will be able to employ more teachers and education support staff, reduce class sizes, boost wellbeing programs and ensure every student gets greater individual attention. The commitment to increase funding means it will be easier to attract and retain school staff and better address teacher shortages, as well as help tackle excessive school staff workloads.

“This is a significant win for the public school teachers, principals, education support staff, parents and students who have been campaigning for full funding in Victoria for many years.

“We look forward to working with the Commonwealth and State Governments to deliver this investment and support public education in Victoria.”
