Graduate teachers and the AEU
All public school teachers are covered by the Victorian Government Schools Agreement 2013.
We understand that graduate teachers face specific challenges at work, and we’ve achieved some significant outcomes for grads over the years, including:
a 5% reduction in workload for all full-time graduates in their first year
access to a laptop for work use at no cost to the teacher
a mentor for all graduates working full-time in their first year
an increase in he first year graduate salary, from $58,498 to $63,356 since 2012.
These accomplishments were not won easily and couldn’t have happened without the collective strength of our members.
The AEU: the union for you
As well as improving your pay and conditions, we’re also here to provide advice when you need it, to run high-quality training and skills development, and to campaign for big picture, long-term reforms to policy and funding.
When you’re in the AEU, you’re also part of a vibrant, diverse community of fellow educators. The New Educator Network (NEN) is a community network run specifically for student and graduate members.
NEN runs social events for AEU members who are at a similar stage in their careers and provides opportunities for you to meet others, get involved in the union, help create policy and become active in key campaigns that will affect your working life and your students.
Every AEU student member is automatically joined up to NEN. Join us online at our NEN Facebook page.
